Cross-centered
SHF is a cross-centered church. Every time we gather we thank Jesus for dying on the cross in our place, quenching the wrath of God on our behalf, and rising again for our justification. It's only because of the substitutionary death of Christ on the cross that we have forgiveness of sins and peace with God. This is a non-negotiable core value here at SHF, and we hope this is obvious.
God-glorifying
Our Sunday gathering has one main purpose: to worship God – Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. Worship is not about preferences, whether we like hymns or choruses, or loud or quiet music. Preferences should never be confused with worship itself. God-glorifying worship is a heart issue: Hearts and voices lifted up to God in adoration and appreciation for His mercy and grace.
Grace-built
We are building our church with grace. What do we mean when we say this? It means that our ministries are motivated by grace and not by rules or rituals. Our small groups are a good example of this. When we meet together it is to have our attitudes, our behavior, our relationships, and ultimately our lives adjusted, motivated, and built by focusing upon God’s grace - undeserved, available, and amazing.
Bible-saturated
It is common to hear these ancient words when the Bible is read in our church: This is the Word of the Lord. Thanks be to God! We want to be shaped by His Word, which is why our sermons consist of closely examining the Bible and applying it to our lives. This method of preaching (commonly called expository) ensures that we take seriously the charge to preach the Word. (2 Timothy 4:2)
Spirit-empowered
We believe in the Holy Spirit. Our church gladly affirms this simple line out of the ancient Apostles’ Creed. We're intentionally a Trinitarian church with a healthy emphasis upon the ministry of the Holy Spirit. We believe that God will be powerfully present to heal, equip, and transform our lives - whenever and wherever we meet together.
Family-oriented
SHF is dedicated to raising godly families. This is why we believe that our children and youth ministries should be complementing and reinforcing what parents are already teaching their children at home, and not replacing it. We urge moms and dads to be passionate about the things of God and to intentionally pass this on to their children. (Deuteronomy 6:4-7)
